“Evening Letter” by Kim Yong-Taek

Night Letter

I like you.
Every night
as the stars come out,
I’m reminded of your face.
On this night, too, I’m watching the stars.
Following one,
I see your face.
Among the many,
at times
all I see is a solitary star.
The same one you’re watching now.
The same one that’s ours.
The reason stars bud up like they do
is because of countless hearts
with longing for each other.
The two of us have lived so long apart.
Someday,
from the farthest south,
from the farthest north,
those stars above will all
shine their light at once.
When they do, our eyes won’t meet in our star
but  face to face
and we’ll take each other’s hands.
That day, that day,
will surely come.
