“Hands” by Shin Hae-Wook

You put on the glove.

Your hands have become smaller somehow
and because you’ve placed them on your knees,
stranger still.

*

What I envied, actually,
wasn’t you
but your smooth fingers.

You hold my hand
in your fingers,
touch my face,
touch yours.

Why can’t love be between by three people?
Why in this world
is there no one else but you?

*

You take off your gloves and rest your hand on the door.

Carefully, you stripped them off.
The lines of your palm pass over, press into the glass.
Whether purposefully or not, I do not know.

But I have to keep watch over fate,
and so, I tape the glass to keep it from breaking,
and so, let’s not take off gloves again.

*

Two hands in one glove.

One is mine.
The other, I wish was yours.
