If at the edge of a dizzying cliff you’re
pacing in the face of the wind, I won’t call out to you.
Clinging to your collar, I won’t be an overbearing noise.

What could your reason be?
I will be behind you
with my share of love to watch over you till the end.
Even though you don’t hold out your hand, I will take all of you and yours in mine.

2
Something small, so very small, reached the ground first.
Tugged from the most humbly bowing eave,
it fell faster than you.
That I don’t love my own life
and can’t love another’s, I didn’t learn till later.
It reached the ground before you.
As swaddling clothes receive a baby, receive me with every bit of you.
