Water beetles hold their breath against the wind.

Waters swell.
The moon exhales deeply.

Murmurings rise like running waters
up to my eyebrows — and are quiet.

As animals crawl out of conch shells, there follows a collective crashing of waves.
Are the birds flying into the night?

Disappearing clouds soon follow the remaining wings.
Where could the waters intend to take me?

Water joining water, these evening waves.
These waters swallow me.
A once sleeping child wakes from sleep and cries.

I remember these kinds of waves
when the trees engulf the darkness of the garden inside me,
soaked, like the child that came and sat crying
beside me on the wooden floor tonight.
The sounds of their crashing travels far.
The night that collective first appeared:

birds were drawn by it,
young shellfish raised in it,
I endured my place in it.

Tonight is a night where trout gush up from the depths.
On a side street, my name lives on the lips of people
and animals wander with tails between their legs.
With heels like a waning moon,
my bare feet turn cold.
The waters are coming.
