On the mountains flowers bloom.
Flowers bloom.
Through autumn, spring, and summer,
flowers bloom.

The small birds chirping on the mountains
enjoy flowers.

they are servants of noble birth.

갈 봄 여름 없이

산에

피는 꽃은
저만치 혼자서 피어 있네

산에서 우는 작은 새요

Kim So-Wol (1902—1934) was born in Kwaksan in the province of North Pyeongan under the given name Jeong-Sik. Some of his most widely read poems include Azaleas (진달래꽃), Flowers Blooming on the Mountains (산유화/山有花),  Mother, Sister (엄마야, 누낭), and Wanderer’s Spring (낭인의 봄).
