“Cow” by Kim Ki-Taek

The cow’s large eyes look as if there’s something she longs to say,
but I don’t have the ears to understand.
All her words are in her eyes.

Words which could tumble as tears from eyes all but filled,
but there is no path out of the body.
The heart tries to coax out a few, handful by handful,
but the words don’t budge from those eyes.
Shut in for thousands of years.
Oh, those twinkling words,
in such a round, pure prison.
No possible way out,
the cow expels the same cud from her stomach
to chew and chew again.
