“An Unexpected Briskness” by Lee Seong-Bu

For me to walk is to search for love.
In the streets, I learned to gather and pack together sadness to fall asleep.
And there I grew used to attaching wings to my longing as I walked.
In the forest, I grow taller to stretch my hands to the skies,
and on the mountaintops, strangely enough, I grow shorter.
Even when I do nothing but look down, everything seems so far away.
Somewhere at the edge of my vision, my love may be lying down.
Or perhaps my love is bursting flower buds.
If neither, then my love is seated patiently for me, quietly waiting.
If I descend the mountain, then climb again in search for him,
could having walked such a bumpy road alone
become joy overflowing?
There is somewhere I must go,
and so each step distancing me keeps me busy.
But the further I walk, the emptier my burden grows,
until before I’ve realized it my pace has quickened!
