“In a Round Ring” by Lee Sa-Ra

If in the spring sun come to rest on a window
we meet and gaze into each other’s eyes
like two people, like one person,
as the light builds its round house in pupils,
in a look, in a tear,
then I want to live in a round, waking dream.

Each season I become one with the round world. Become colored by it.
And wish there was nothing for me outside the eye.

Rigid things break as I pretend not to know what I know so well.
I rejoin the world. And even though all my heart bumps against  my whole heart.
And even though everything gets gladly swept up in ordinary spring days,
in years of experience on the ends of branches made lighter
as they flutter on poor spring days,
in spring days spent on the verdant burial mounds of people I loved,

when we meet in a round eye,
unable to speak,
the longer this suffering which dries the blood grows,
the more I believe in becoming an embryo.
When love is round and without words,
and without a word from anyone leaves turn color and fall,
and without a word from anyone buds sprout in the spring sun, then I truly believe.

People walk around endlesslly in a ring
held in the roundness of life.
